Some things don't need explaining when your therapist already gets the context. As an Asian American psychologist, I bring both clinical training and lived understanding to this work.
Begin HereWhat Brings People Here
A lot of Asian Americans come to therapy carrying things that are hard to put into words — or things they've never had space to say out loud. The pressure to succeed in very specific ways. The tension between who your family needs you to be and who you actually are. The exhaustion of navigating spaces where you're always slightly othered.
There's also the particular grief of immigration — whether it's your story or your parents' — the cultural losses and adaptations that happen across generations, and the complexity of feeling pride and pain about the same things at the same time.
This is a space where you don't have to translate yourself. We can go straight to the thing.
How I Work With This
As an Asian American psychologist, I understand the cultural context you're working within — the family dynamics, the model minority pressures, the particular way that emotions can be dismissed or minimized in a lot of Asian households. You won't spend half your session educating me.
That said, I also know that the Asian American experience is not monolithic. Your story is your own, and I'll be genuinely curious about the specifics of how it's shaped you. We'll work at the level of your actual life — not a generalization of it.
My approach is depth-oriented, relational, and direct. I'll ask real questions, I'll notice what you're not saying, and we'll do work that goes beyond coping skills into actual understanding and change.
Sessions are virtual. I work with clients throughout California and Massachusetts.
